Prof. Werner Goetz studied medicine, biology and prehistorical sciences from 1980 until 1987 at the Universities of Tuebingen and Goettingen, Germany. He received his M.D. in 1987 and his Ph.D. in 1989. From 1987 until 2001, he worked at the Department of Histology at the Center of Anatomy of the University of Goettingen, Germany. Following a specialisation in anatomy, he became a Full Professor for Anatomy in 1999 and for Experimental Oral Biology in 2003. Since 2001, he has also been heading the Oral Biology Laboratory of the Department of Orthodontics at the Dental Hospital of the University of Bonn, Germany. Prof. Goetz has lectured and done extensive research on biology and pathology of the periodontium; tooth movement and root resorption; dental stem cells, regenerative periodontal therapies; biological and medical aspects of gerostomatology; bone substitutes; anatomical, biological and medical aspects of oral implantology.
